2011


Soror Elinor Louise G. Murphy
Born October 27, 1922
Died February 15, 2011
In 1972, Soror Murphy attended the National Democratic Convention as a delegate for (Soror) Shirley Chisholm.
Louise was elected to the Democratic State Central Committee and was subsequently selected to replace
Maryland State Senator John Carroll Byrnes in 1982 when he was appointed to the Circuit Court.
This selection made her the second African American female senator in the Maryland State Legislature.
Committed to public service, Louise served her community faithfully. She was a member of the
Board of Directors for the Morgan Christian Center and the Arena Playhouse.
She was the Past President of the Morgan Park Community Association and the Baltimore City Retired
Teachers Association. In 1999, she was appointed to the Maryland Aviation Commission, serving
two terms. For more than 65 years, she was a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.



2006


Soror Carol Anne Sayers Puryear
Born January 20, 1937
Died
March 1, 2006
Dr. Puryear was initiated at the National Convention held in Detroit, MI in 1956
while a student at Wayne State University. After graduation, she joined the Detroit Alumnae
Chapter where she served as president from 1985-87. Carol served as a member of
the National Scholarship & Standards Committee from 1990-94 and on the National
Executive Board as the Chair of Strategic Planning from 1994-96. She was a charter
member of Delta Sigma Theta Detroit Foundation, Inc., one of the foundations associated
with the Detroit Alumnae Chapter. At the time of her death, Soror Puryear was a member
of the Midwest Regional Nominating Committee.

Soror Puryear was a charter member of Delta's "CyberChapter", hosted on AOL by Soror
(Dr.) Pamela A. Ross and was a charter member and staunch supporter of Bee Jae
and The DELTAnet, even when others became critical. She was a true friend as well
as soror and lived a life that should be emulated by all sorors.

Soror Lonnie Sue Moore Dean
Little Rock, AR

A Golden Life member who pledged at Delta Eta Chapter at Arkansas Mechanical & Normal
College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1952. She was a retired educator with the Little Rock, Arkansas
Public Schools. She had four daughters who are all members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.



2005


Soror Tabitha Monique Briggs
Born March 16, 1980
Died
March 11, 2005

She was initiated into the Eta Zeta Chapter (Western Kentucky University)
on April 21, 2001, as the #3 Devotion of 11 Wonders and
served as president
of the chapter in 2002
. Her devotion to Delta was evident from the beginning.
She devoted her life to being a positive example of those who are fighting cancer.

Soror Dorothy Parker Richardson
Born February 3, 1923 in Portsmouth, VA
Died March 3, 2005 in Montclair, NJ

A Golden Life member, "Dottie Boo" (as she was affectionately known by
her sorors) was a dedicated and long
standing member of the Montclair
(NJ) Alumnae Chapter, where she serve
d as the third president, held the
offices of Treasurer and Financial Secretary, and chaired numerous
committees.




2004

Soror Willie Mae Durham
Born December 12, 1929
Died July 10, 2004


Soror Durham was a devoted member of the Greenwood-Itta Bena (MS)
Alumnae Chapter, where she was initiated in 1981 and remained active until
death. She served the chapter as Parliamentarian and Chair of Membership Services
